Ernest Begay
CROWNPOINT — Funeral services for Ernest Begay, 53, will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at the New Life Fellowship Church in Crownpoint. The Rev. Bobby Arviso will officiate.
Begay died July 15, 2011, in Whitehorse Lake. He was born Dec. 11, 1957, in Crownpoint into the Zuni People Clan for the Zia People Clan.
Survivors include his son, Leandro Eric Begaye of Salt Lake City; daughters, Rochelle Lynn Begaye and Vanessa Jaye Begaye both of Farmington; brothers, Emerson Lee Begaye and Kyle Lee Begay; sisters, Shirley M.King of Tohajiilee, Lolita Begaye of Salt Lake City, Rita Manus of Fruitland, Vita Begay of Crownpoint, and Melissa Crank of Monument Valley; and eight grandchildren.
Begay was preceded in death by his parents John Lee Begay and Lucy Whitehorse Begay; and grandparents John Whitehorse, Lena Sloan and Glonzine Begay.
Pallbearers will be Edison Sloan, Emerson Lee Begay, Kyle Lee Begay, Van Hudson, Snow King and James Yazzie Jr.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Crownpoint Chapter House after the burial.

Peter Denetclaw Sr
Visitation for Peter Denetclaw will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Desert View Funeral Home Chapel, North U.S. 491, Shiprock.
A Rosary will be recited for Denetclaw at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2011, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Shiprock. The Rev. John Sauter will be the celebrant. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, 6917 East Main, Farmington. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2182 of Farmington.
Peter Denetclaw, Sr. 78 died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, in Farmington. He was born November 12, 1932 in Naschitti.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie; sons, Peter Jr. and Brinskie; sisters, Deborah, Angie, Agnes Joe, Betty Begay; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Desbah Denetclaw and his brother, Arkie Denetclaw.
Arrangements are by Desert View Funeral Home in Shiprock.
John B. Jake Jr.
PREWITT —Funeral services for John B. Jake Jr., 42, will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, July 22,2011, at the Thoreau Church of God. The Rev. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Prewitt.
Jake died July 17, 2011, in Grants. He was born Oct. 15, 1968, in Albuquerque into the Towering House People Clan for the Start of the Red Streak People Clan.
Jake graduated in 1990 from Newcomb High School. He worked with drafting and silversmithing in Bluewater Village for three years for Jerry Elkins. His hobbies were playing basketball, football, going fishing, camping, playing board games and with his kids.
Survivors include his wife Jerralene Jake; sons, Jermaine Jake, Johnathan Jake, Jeremiah Jake, Shishonie Jake and Jameson Jake; daughters, Francine Jake and Maryann Jake; parents, John Jake Sr. and Leroy Smiley; brothers, Darrell Jake and Wendall Jake; sisters, Pearlynn J. Martinez and Cheryl Jake; grandparents, Pearl Tapaha and Albert Tapaha; and one grandchild.
Jake was preceded in death by his mother Mary Ann Curley and grandparents Little Jake, Mary Jake, James F. Curley, Gloria M. Curley, Barbara Delgarito and Little Henry Jake.
Pallbearers will be Jason Delgarito, Duane R. Cooke, Eugene Smith, Wendall Jake, Shane L. Martinez and John Manning.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Baca Chapter House, Prewitt.

Dora Moffett
Dora Moffett, 96, died July 18, 2011, in Show Low, Ariz. She was born March 22, 1915, in Leupp, Ariz. A visitation will be Friday, July 22, 2011, at 9 a.m. MST, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., both at the Round Cedar Church of the Nazarene in Round Cedar, Ariz. Arrangements are being handled by Norvel Owens Mortuary.
Raymond Murphy
LOS ANGELES — Memorial services for Raymond Anthony Murphy, 55, will be held at Free Trinity Navajo Mission 2 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the Cope Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Dennis Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in family plot at Twin Lakes.
Murphy died May 2, 2011, in Los Angeles. He was born Dec. 29, 1957, in Rock Springs into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Salt Water People Clan.
Murphy started grade school in Tse Bonito then he left at age 8 on placement program to Utah, where he grew up with his foster parents Keith and Veda Welch. He completed high school in Utah and continued on to UVU and onto his career with Boeing in Los Angeles.
Survivors include his sisters, Linda Wilson, Adele Murphy and Cindy Anderson.
Murphy is preceded in death by his parents, Charley Murphy and Rosemary Kinsel; grandparents, Tom Kinsel and Asonso Kinsel; and sister, Corrina Anderson.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Free Trinity Navajo Mission.
Cope Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
Bernard John Ramirez Sr.
RAMIREZ — A rosary for Bernard John Ramirez Sr., 51, will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011, followed by a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. at Salazar and Sons Mortuary. Interment is to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Ramirez died on July 15, 2011.
Ramirez was a veteran of the United States Army.
Ramirez is survived by his daughter, Brigid Ramirez; son, John Ramirez Jr.; sister, Tony Ramirez; brothers, Richard Ramirez, Henry Ramirez, Fermin Ramirez, Joed, Clemaco, Frank Jr., Nick, and Ernie, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Frank Ramirez; sister, Alvira Ramirez; and his fiance, Donna Lopez.
Salazar and Sons Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.
Faith Jessie Smith
Fort Defiance — Funeral services for Jessie Faith Smith, 55, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Santa Maria Catholic Church in McCartys. The Rev. Wayne Gibbeaut, O.F.M., will officiate. A traditional wake will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Althea Rodriguez’ residence in Smith.
Smith died July 19, 2011, in Phoenix. She was born Jan. 7, 1956, in Albuquerque. She was of the Eagle Clan of the Acoma Tribe/Naaneesht’ezhi Tachii’nii.
Survivors include her sons, Thunder Cloud Abeita and Benjamin Chee Thompson Jr.; daughters Michelle Faye Slinkey, Charity Leigh Slinkey and Winter Rose Abeita; brother, Robert Garcia, Samuel J. Smith Jr. and Michael V. Smith; sisters Althea Rodriguez, Janice Pilcher, Arlene Wise, Jocelyn Thompson and Loretta Smith. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rena B. Smith, maternal grandparents Herbert Brown and Juana B. Gomez and paternal grandparents Thomas Chee and Christine Chee.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Althea Rodriguez’ residence in Smith.
